About

Festival Día del Niño en La 29 is an annual Children’s Day street festival dedicated to promoting the well-being and a brighter future for children across Oklahoma City. Each year, thousands of children and families gather to enjoy live stage performances, interactive and educational experiences, meaningful connections with community resources, and opportunities to support local businesses along the SW 29th Street commercial corridor. Traditionally held each April along SW 29th Street, from S. Western Avenue to S. Shartel Avenue, the festival has grown into the largest admission-free, community-focused Día del Niño celebration in the state of Oklahoma, while also serving as a platform to highlight and strengthen the La 29 commercial district. Our Beginnings The festival was established more than a decade ago with the vision of bringing the tradition of Día del Niño to Oklahoma City in a way that centered children, families, community connection, and economic vitality along the SW 29th Street business corridor. What began as a local initiative quickly evolved into a beloved annual event rooted in cultural celebration, education, and family engagement. Inspired by the origins of Día del Niño in Mexico in the early 20th century, the festival was designed to honor childhood while creating a welcoming environment that benefits both families and local businesses. A Legacy Honored A defining chapter in the festival’s history is the legacy of Ramiro Vazquez, whose vision and dedication helped shape the foundation and spirit of Día del Niño in Oklahoma City. His commitment to children, families, and community wellbeing continues to guide the values and purpose of the festival. In recognition of his lasting impact, the event was officially renamed Festival Día del Niño en La 29, en Memoria de Ramiro Vazquez, honoring his legacy and reinforcing the festival’s mission to celebrate childhood while strengthening community ties. Growth and Impact Over the years, Festival Día del Niño en La 29 has continued to grow in both scale and impact, welcoming thousands of attendees annually. Through hands-on activities, cultural programming, access to community resources, and direct engagement with local merchants, the festival supports children, families, and the ongoing vitality of the La 29 commercial district.
